How It Started
It all began with an idea. Sergio and Susan, both born and raised in Los Angeles, met in 1994. After getting married, they enjoyed hosting family gatherings where they cooked together, using old family recipes with their own twists. Friends and relatives loved the food and often encouraged them to open a restaurant. Living in L.A., though, made that dream hard to reach due to the high cost of living.
Moving to Fresno
In 2005, Sergio and Susan made the decision to move to Fresno to raise their family and pursue their business idea. The move happened on July 4, 2006, starting in Sanger, California. Their children were 5, 7, and 11 years old at the time. Soon after settling in, they began working on what would become The Seafood Company, originally located on Kings Canyon near Peach, across from Sunnyside High School.
Building from the Ground Up
They created a business plan and opened a southern-style “you buy, we fry!” shop. They added Mexican quick eats like tacos, burritos, and mariscos. The concept combined Los Angeles flavors with family recipes and personal touches. With limited funds, Sergio and Susan did much of the work themselves—tile, painting, plumbing, and permits—while raising their kids on-site and working over 14 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Why Locals Love It
The restaurant is casual, clean, and welcoming. It offers seafood boils and other dishes made with fresh catches and house-made sauces. Customers can dine in, order for takeout, or get delivery. They also offer catering services. The Seafood Company continues to serve families, friends, and the local community with quality and consistency.
